In 2009, Head Brewer, Alex Ferris started home brewing after an unfortunate experience being served beer from a pub which had not been looked after properly. Challenge accepted. The plan was to experiment with existing clone recipes of their favourite beers, for example, St Austell's Proper Job. Alex was given her first brewing equipment by their professional brewing mates. Many experimental pints later, and several Beer Academy courses, Braumeister equipment was purchased which enabled precision recipe planning and quality ales to be developed. Alex won 4th place in the London and South East Brewing Competition in April 2015 for Gargle Blaster (the IPA which became Hammer Time). In July 2015 Apex Brewery gained its Beer Licence. Since then they've been serving local pubs (e.g. their local, The Mitre Inn, Sandford Orcas and The Digby Tap, Sherborne, with their selection of distinct beers. Alex was awarded the IBD's professional brewing General Certificate of Brewing in June 2018.
